New-Season Dressing 6 Trends To Try This Spring

Oversized Jeans
Straying from your preferred denim cut can be a wrench, but trying something new is a great way to switch up your style. This season, oversized jeans are here to break us away from the slimmer cuts we’ve all relied upon as building blocks in our wardrobes. Whether you opt to wear them low on the hips or cinched with a belt around the waist, they’re a simple seasonal swap to make. Stick to your preferred wash and they’ll slot into your wardrobe with ease.

Simple Sandals
As recent S/S seasons have shown, statement sandals have a place in every wardrobe, but the return to pared-back, minimal styles is a welcome one. They add a different dimension to summer outfits and offer a versatility that chunkier sandals can’t – you can wear them with anything, from office-ready tailoring to denim, and even with silk and satin evening pieces for a low-key luxe look. Unlike its chunkier cousins, this style doesn’t lend itself to layering, so skip the socks-and-sandals look and wear with bare skin.

Oversized Bags
At last, after years of mini and micro bags reigning supreme, oversized bags are back. Practicality is one of the biggest factors when it comes to forever pieces, and there are few more practical than a tote into which you can throw everything and go. Stick to simple designs that aren’t heavy on hardware and detailing in wear-with-anything colours such as black and tan.
4
Soft Tailoring
Tailoring is often reserved for the cooler months, but this softer take on the trend brings it beautifully into spring and summer. It’s all about a loose, oversized silhouette (think borrowed from the boys) in lighter, more fluid fabrics like linen, cotton and hopsack. Swap wintry black and navy for neutral hues like brown, beige and pale grey. Opt for trousers with pleat detailing and a high waist to create elegant volume, and pair with a white tee or go for a matching waistcoat layered beneath your blazer. This look works equally as well with heels (try a mid-heeled slingback) as it does trainers.
5
Utilitarian
The utilitarian trend encompasses so many versatile and wearable pieces. Think cargo trousers, skirts, jackets and shirts in sturdy cotton and blendable, functional shades like khaki and sandy beige. The beauty is that it can be dressed up or down easily – cargo trousers with heels is a great look for the evening – and comfort and practicality is at its core. Investing in just one piece is enough to inject your wardrobe with a feeling of newness, and it also pairs perfectly with the soft tailoring and oversized jeans trends.
6
Trench
The trench never goes out of style, but it had a starring role on the season’s catwalks. How to make yours feel fresh? Layer it over pieces from the utilitarian trend – like cargo trousers – or oversized jeans. Don’t own one yet but think this is the season to invest? Go for a slightly oversized fit that can be cinched in at the waist to add definition. Classic camel is always a great option, but if that doesn’t suit you (it can be a tricky colour to wear with some hair and skin tones), try olive or pale brown shades instead.
