Tailored Wide-Leg
A tailored jean is a secret-weapon piece to have in your arsenal. The most elevated of the jeans family, this grown-up style looks great with heeled boots – just make sure you can see the toe of the boots and the hem of the jeans are hovering just above the floor (you don’t want to suck up puddles on wet days!).
Horseshoe
The horseshoe style is a newcomer, and while it’s a little more fashion-forward than the classics in this edit, we still feel it’s here to stay. Choose ankle-grazing styles and pair with flats or summer sandals for an easy, everyday look.
Black
Black jeans are often overshadowed by their blue and white counterparts, but we think they’re still a wardrobe staple, as they often work better than the aforementioned for day-to-night dressing. Our top tip? Ditch your skinny black jeans and go for straight-leg styles instead – they look more timeless.
Cropped
With spring and summer on the horizon, cropped jeans are a great option. They’re perfect for wearing with sandals and a T-shirt, but work just as well in autumn and winter with a boot that’s snug around the ankle. Consider them a go-to for those days when you want something easy and low-maintenance to wear that will partner well with any top, be it an oversized shirt, blazer or a simple knitted crew neck.
Cargo
It may seem like a curveball style, but the cargo jean is an outfit transformer, a great style for both summer and winter. In summer, pair with sandals and a tee or blouse, in winter opt for a knit and elegant pointed-toe boots for a modern twist on a classic look.
Straight
Straight-leg jeans are the best all-rounder style. Why? Because they can be dressed up or down with ease and work well with all styles of footwear. Choose a cut that sits higher on the waist, as this is most flattering. A belt is always a chic addition, especially if the rest of your outfit is pared-back.
White
Not only for your summer wardrobes, white jeans are a denim staple to be worn all year round, trust us. Choose straight or slouchy styles and (again) steer clear of skinnies. During the cooler months, wear with chunky lug-sole or pointed-toe boots, then switch to ballet flats or colour-pop retro trainers as the weather warms up. Just make sure they graze your ankle.
Slouchy
Slouchy jeans are the most casual of all the styles. Comfortable and chic, they’re best worn with low-key trainers, sandals or ballet flats. Length-wise, they should puddle slightly on the shoe. To prevent your silhouette from looking too boxy, pair with a cropped jacket or blazer, rather than a longline coat.
